Obituary

On Saturday, January 22, 2022 Kathryn (Katy) Ellen Whyte Dunn passed away at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa after a short illness.

Memorial Services for Katy Dunn will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lake Lutheran Church, 3250 190th Street, rural Goldfield, Iowa with Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiating.  Burial will be at Goldfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

She was born January 19, 1965 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Kent and Joanne (Anderson) Whyte. She had a mane of curly red hair and was a happy child, the apple of her family’s eye.

Katy graduated from Goldfield High School in 1983 where she was active in sports, music, enjoyed her small sized school classes and was named Homecoming Queen her senior year.  She went on to graduate from Iowa State University with a degree in Elementary Education.  Katy loved teaching children in the primary grades and had a magic touch with them.  Her first official teaching job was in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she met Rodney Dunn II.  They were married March 17, 1990.  From this union twin sons Lukas Kent and Rodney Loy III were born. Loy was special needs child and passed at an early age in 2001.  She was a devoted, proud and loving mother to both her boys.  Lukas was a very good brother to Loy and a bright light in Katy’s world.

She was confirmed at Lake Lutheran Church in rural Goldfield.  Lake Church inspired her strong Christian beliefs, faith and values.  On Katy’s “Heaven Day” she looked forward to dancing with Loy in heaven.  She loved her entire family dearly and was greatly loved in return. Each niece and nephew, great nieces and nephew all held a special place in her heart as she gently encouraged them and brought fun and laughter to their times together.

Katy is preceded in death by her father Kent Whyte and son Loy.

She is survived by her son Lukas and his wife Courtney, mother Joanne Whyte, sisters Kristin (Scott) Radechel, Wendy (Scott) Axon, brother Keith (Jennifer) Whyte, nieces and nephews: Emily, Cameron, Derek, Cody, Erik, Courtney, Allyson, great nieces and nephew: Maddie, Wyatt, Charlotte, Alice, Emilia and Aunt Marylyn Wilson.
