Obituary

Kaye Lynn Vanness, 73, of Alexander, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Kaye Lynn Vanness was born Oct. 17, 1942, to Fred and Hazel (Larsen) Modderman. After graduating from Alexander High School in 1960, she married her High School sweetheart Dennis Vanness. They made their home in Hampton for the next five years where their sons were born. The family moved to the farm at Alexander in 1965; along with being a Homemaker, Kaye helped on the dairy farm where she was Chief calf raiser and bottle washer and hay bale operator. When the boys were old enough to help on the farm, Kaye started working at Johnson’s Paint and Gift store in Clear Lake; after the store closed, Kaye started her out of the home business of decorating for weddings and dance recitals, etc. The last seven years before retirement she was a librarian at the Alexander Library.
Kaye was an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker. She loved making Halloween costumes and quilts for the grandchildren. She also made quilts for benefits and the church bazaar. Over the years she served on many local boards and foundations. Kaye loved music and sang for many weddings and funerals and was choir director at Immanuel. She never missed an activity, sporting or other, Kaye's grandchildren were involved. Kaye helped with numerous 4-H projects over the years. As busy as she was family came first, especially the grandchildren. A Plaque over the kitchen sink says it best, "My Greatest Blessings Call Me Grandma."
Left to cherish her memories are: her husband Dennis, Alexander, sons Chris (Melinda) of Latimer, Mitch (Deb) of Latimer, five grandchildren, Kaylee (Mike) Borcherding, Kyle, Kendra, Zach and Madi; 2 great-grandchildren Collin and Paige Borcherding; brother Jerry (Maureen) Modderman of Altoona; brother-in-law Ron Vanness; sister-in-laws Jolene Fergusen, Darla (Randy) Kibsgaard, Sherri Vanness, Lori Hain, and Deb Vanness.

Preceded: Parents, son Joel, brother-in-law Gailen Vanness.
