Obituary


Keith Leroy Janes, 62, of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Britt, passed away Saturday September 17, 2011, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida.

A remembrance celebration for Keith Janes will be held from 3-5 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Christian Reformed Church, 569 Main Ave. North, in Britt.  Ewing Funeral Home in Britt is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Keith Leroy (Melvin) Janes, son of Verle and Ella (Greenfield) Janes was born on May 26, 1949 in Titonka, Iowa.  He attended Britt Community Schools and graduated in 1967. Keith married Sandra (McNeese) on August 18, 1967. The couple resided in Britt with 3 children and Keith was employed at Wilson's Super Valu in Britt for 23 years. He was active in the Christian Reformed Church, was the Britt Jaycee Charter Club President, and a Lions Club member. He started the recycling center in his garage and continued the service until moving to Florida in 1994.   They were part owners of Melvin's Bagel and Grill in Hobe Sound, FL, where he was manager and grill cook for 12 years. After selling the business, Keith worked as a greens keeper at Monterey Yacht and Country Club in Stuart.

He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, sports, racing, hunting, and his fishing trips to Canada with his kids and friends. He loved playing cards and traveling. He was a good-hearted free spirit in many ways.

Keith is survived by his wife of 44 years Sandra and children:  Kelly (Rita) Janes of Clarion, Iowa, Garen (Kelly Jo) Janes of Stuart, Florida, and Dana Janes of North Palm Beach, Florida; 3 grandchildren: Shawn Janes, Iowa City, Tyler and Emma Janes of Stuart, Florida; his sisters: Verla (Jeremiah) Schmidt of Britt, Iowa and Deloris (Robert) Ruter of Kanawha, Iowa; a sister-in-law Phyllis Janes of Garner, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Willis.
