Keith "Smutty" Schmid

Keith “Smutty” Schmid, 58, of Britt passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home in Britt.

Funeral services for Keith Schmid will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 5:30 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt with Jerry Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.

Keith Allen Schmid, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Whitehurst) Schmid, was born January 13, 1960 in Britt, Iowa. He grew up in the Britt area and after high school went to work at various jobs. He worked 20 plus years at Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

When Smutty wasn’t at work he enjoyed fishing, gardening, gambling, and a cold drink. He had a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he was younger and held an interest ever since. Smutty had an eye for value when others didn’t. He enjoyed going to flea markets and looked for “Golden Books” everywhere.

He was old school, set in his ways, very stubborn and will be greatly missed.

Smutty is survived by his children Kristy (Josh) Krein of Marshalltown and their children Courtney, Kaitlyn, Noah, and Rachel, Josh (Ashtyne) Schmid of Britt and their children Aidia, Westin, and Paisley, Kelsey (Joey) Units of Britt and their children Allyson, Autumn, Kina, Josilyn, Genesis, and Solomon, and Kaycee Schmid of Mason City; his special friend Connie Smith; brothers Tim and Dave Schmid; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
