Obituary


Kenneth Cook, 83, formerly of Britt, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Highline Hospital in Burien, Washington.

Memorial services for Kenneth Cook will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Kenny was born May 18, 1932 to Joseph and Hettie (Gordon) Cook in Wesley.  He grew up around Hancock County and attended country schools in the area.

Ken was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1951 and was honorably discharged in August of 1953.  He spent his time in Japan/Korea after completing basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Ken was united in marriage to Patricia Wilson on February 7, 1958 in Nashua, Iowa.  To this union four children were born, Duane, Robert, Billy, and Don.

After leaving the service, Ken was employed with the Iowa D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) where he worked for more that 40 years until his retirement.

Ken and his son Billy (who was suffering from chronic progressive M.S.) decided to move to Seattle, Washington for its more moderate climate and where his brothers Norman and Homer lived.

Ken and Billy spent the remainder of their lives in Burien, Washington where Billy had purchased a new home.

Ken had many interests, his biggest being his family and families of his brothers. He also enjoyed gardening, whether in Iowa raising vegetables or Washington growing flowers, he loved to spend his free time outdoors caring for his garden (vegetables or roses) he loved to see things grow.

Ken also enjoyed sports wrestling, baseball, football, horse racing, and was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping.

Ken is survived by his sons: Duane of Britt, Robert (Karman) of Fort Dodge, Don of Burien, Washington; 5 grandchildren; brother Norman of Seattle, Washington, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pat; son Billy; and siblings: Doris, Elsie, Clifford, Ralph, Leonard, Homer, Lawrence, Harold, and Marvin (Pete) Cook.
