Obituary


Kenneth Robert Pogge, 76, of Kanawha passed away Tuesday morning, June 19, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Kenneth Pogge will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, with Lynn J. Noel MDiv officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kenneth, the son of John and Lena (Kamp) Pogge, was born March 22, 1936 on the family farm near Renwick, Iowa.  He grew up in the Renwick area and graduated from high school in 1954.  Kenneth was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member.

On July 3, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joyce Arends.  The couple made their home in the Renwick area, where Kenneth farmed.  They were blessed with four children, Katherine, Lori, Robin, and Jay.

Kenneth enjoyed raising cattle, and riding and hitching up horses.  He also enjoyed traveling to the Iowa State Fair, Texas, Arizona, and particularly, Branson, Missouri.  He took many fishing trips there with his son and grandsons.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce; three children, Katherine Dawn Olmstead-Minor and husband, Marvin of Clarion, Lori Jayne Jones and husband, Jeff of Badger, and Jay Alan Pogge and wife, Daphne of Kanawha; eight grandchildren, Amy (Troy) Dannen, Bryan (Kimberly) Olmstead, Krista Olmstead (Tyler Weydert), Jonathan (Neely) Jones, Jennifer Jones (Josh McKimm), Ashley Pogge, Lindsey Pogge, and Zachary Pogge; four great-grandchildren, Maridawn and Daisey Jones, and Jillian and Beckham Olmstead; two sisters, Marcene (Ewald) Mueller and Linda (Fred) Metzger; two brothers, Chris Pogge and John (Loraine) Pogge; and sister-in-law, LaVonne Pogge, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Pogge; a daughter, Robin Lynn Pogge; a grandson, Nicholas Jay Pogge; one brother, Henry Pogge; one sister-in-law, Rena Pogge; and one son-in-law Ron Olmstead.
