Obituary
La Verne Ethel Stewart, 93, passed away Monday, November 2, 1998, at Westview Care Center, Brit, Iowa.
La Verne, the daughter of Willis and Novella (Bonham) McFarland, was born February 7, 1905, in Union County, Iowa. On June 30, 1921 she was united in marriage with Clifford Stewart in Forest City. The couple made their home in the Crystal Lake area, where LaVerne was a home-maker and worked at the Crystal Lake Post Office.
La Verne served on the Board of Directors of the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a volunteer at the Westview Care Center for many years. For a number of years La Verne wrote news articles for the Mason City Globe Gazette.
La Verne is survived by two daughters: Marjorie Stallman and her husband, Virgil of Sibley, IA; Gwendolyn Nelson and her husband, James of Algona, IA; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren, and one sister, Irene Benson of Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one great grandson, four sisters, and one brother.
