Obituary

Lana Smith, 61, Eagle Grove, finished her earthly life and began eternal life in heaven June 26, 2014, after a nearly year-long battle with acute leukemia.

Funeral services for Lana Smith will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Holmes Baptist Church, 2137 Hancock Avenue in Holmes, with Pastor Zach Fischer officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to funeral services at the church on Monday.

She was born Lana Marie Pegors on April 21, 1953, in Fairmont, Minnesota, to Allen and Doretta (Warnemunde) Pegors and grew up on her family's farm near Truman.

Lana graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and spent nearly two decades ministering to others as a nurse. She later completed her BSN at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. The majority of her career was as a pediatric nurse at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Most recently she worked at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove. She loved the residents dearly and treated each one as she would her own father or mother.

Wedding bells rang on August 15, 1986, when Lana married Tim Smith at Valley Baptist Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota. The couple later welcomed two children, Brenna and Taylor. Lana enjoyed making her farmhouse a home for her family.

Music was a major part of Lana's life. She used her gifts to serve the Lord at Holmes Baptist Church in Clarion, where she was a faithful member. She played the piano at each service for over 25 years. Lana also directed the church's music program and gave private lessons to many students.

Lana not only served as church pianist, but also could be found organizing children's programs and ladies' activities, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School lessons and encouraging women, young and old alike.

Her final request of God was that she continue to bless others in her remaining days on earth.

Lana is greatly missed by her husband, Tim; children, Brenna and Taylor; mother, Doretta Pegors; sisters, Judy Morris and Carol (Gary) Van Ruler; brother, Wesley (Della) Pegors; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Pegors; sister, Evelyn Pegors; and brother-in-law, Dennis Morris.

The memory of the righteous is a blessing.
