Obituary


Lavonne Huntley, 93, of Kanawha passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services for Lavonne Huntley will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 1:30 PM at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, 124 West Fourth Street in Kanawha with Pastor Geoffrey White officiating. Burial will be held in Norway Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation for Lavonne Huntley will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Lavonne Eleanor Huntley was born September 25, 1922 to Elmer and Louise (Asbe) Thorson in rural Kanawha. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Kanawha Lutheran Church. Lavonne attended Kanawha High School and graduated with the Class of 1940.

Lavonne was united in marriage with Richard Huntley on October 8, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in rural Wright County, 8 miles each from Kanawha, Goldfield and Renwick where the couple farmed. To this union, children Mary, Charles, Robert and Charlene were born.

Lavonne and Richard moved to Kanawha upon their retirement in 1982.

Lavonne was a long time active member of St. John's and Kanawha Lutheran Churches, and loved her church family and friends.

Lavonne enjoyed quilting and embroidery, gardening and hosting family on holidays. She made countless batches of Kumla and Kringla over the years, and always had fresh cinnamon rolls baked for the bean walking crew for morning break.

Lavonne is survived by her children, Mary Zeigler of Kanawha, Charles (Susan) Huntley of Dubuque, Char (Tom) Ryan of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren Sherry Waner of Des Moines, Debra (Rick) Cooper of Lewiston, Idaho, Lisa (Mark) Book of Walhalla, South Carolina, Kathy (Rod) Brannan of Ankeny, Iowa, Rich (Cheree) Zeigler of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, David (Stacy) Huntley of Bozeman, Montana and McKenzi (Alvaro) Ruiz of Pioneer, California; great-grandchildren Ashley, Nathan, Whitney, Derek, Kyle, Devan, Sydney, LaRae, Taylor, Jackson, Colin, Jacob, Oliver, Annabelle, Emmeline, Anthony, Chris, Adan and Avery; great-great-grandchildren Isabella, Olivia, Aidan, Owen, Kenly and Austin; step great-grandchildren Abby, Allison and Casey; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard in 2009, son Robert Huntley in 1979, son-in-law Wayne Zeigler in 1995 and brother Paul Thorson.
