Obituary


Lela Odland, 85, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services for Lela Odland will be held on Saturday, September 26, at 10:30 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church, 2139 Hancock Avenue, Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will be at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery south of Holmes.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Holmes Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Lela Odland was born July 27, 1930 at her farm home the daughter of Myron and Julia (Woodin) Hill. She attended Grant #7 Rural School, graduated from Clarion High School in 1948 and graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1952. She taught high school business courses in Lohrville and Renwick. In 1953 she was united in marriage to Earl Stenson Odland. They farmed north of Holmes their entire married life. To this union 4 children were born; Dave, Laura, Lisa and Dan.

Lela was baptized and confirmed in the Clarion Methodist Church and has been a longtime member of the Holmes Evangelical Lutheran Church serving as Deacon, S.S. teacher, Circle officer, choir director and pianist. She served on the Clarion School Board, Wright Co. Extension Council, 4-H Leader, member of Oakridge Recreation and American Legion Auxiliary as well as several social clubs. She found much joy in following her grandchildren’s activities and she also loved to travel.

Lela is survived by her husband, Bud, children Dave (Annette) Odland, Laura (Steve) Klapperich, Lisa (Jon) Harris, and Dan (Lynne) Odland. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Odland, Nathan (Katie) Harris, Allison Klapperich, Rachel Harris, Ben Klapperich, Cara Odland, Luke Odland, Michael Harris, Colin Odland, Matt Odland, Lauren Odland and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Reese and Case Harris. Other survivors include her brother, Myron (Dorla) Hill Jr. and sister-in-law, Elma (Lowell) Lynch as well as nieces, nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dale (Avis) Hill, sisters-in-law Norine Odland and Segnora (Bill) Wheeler.
