Leona E. Cook

Leona Cook, 92, of Clarion, formerly of Dows, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Wright Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 18, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dows. A visitation will be held at the First Lutheran Church the day of the service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Leona Evelyn Cook, daughter of August and Anna (Bruehan) Schroeder, was born October 30, 1913 in rural Wright County. She was raised between Neenah, WI and Dows, IA. She met her husband to be at the Sandwich Shop in Dows, IA on June 27, 1953 they were united in marriage in Dows. During their years together she did bookwork for Dallas’s plumbing business. Dallas passed away in 1995 later she entered the USA Health Care Center in Dows. When it closed she moved to the USA Health Care Center in Clarion. Leona was very active in her church and the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends, cooking, baking, gardening, and reading. Leona is survived by her children, son, Leonard Cook of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter, Carol Block of Denison, IA; grandchildren, Brian Cook, Amanda and Marissa Block; and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Anna; and her husband Dallas.
