Leona Mary Weiland, 80, passed away Sunday, April 12, 1992, at the Hancock
County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.
Leona, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Wieg) Monson, was born December 30,
1911 on a farm near Wesley. She received her education in the rural country
schools near Wesley.
On February 24, 1932, she was united in marriage with Clarence Weiland. The
couple farmed in the Wesley and Britt area until 1972. Following the death of
her husband, she moved into Britt.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt, the Jolly Dozen and the
Senior Citizens Club. She also helped with congregate meals.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence who passed
away in 1972; one son, Larry, who passed away in 1980; three grandsons; two
great-grandchildren; eight brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include four daughters: Imogene Burgardt and her husband, John;
Darlene Dunbar; Lois Conaway and her husband, Chuck all of Britt, Iowa; Diane
McKinney and her husband, Roger, Mesa, Arizona; three sons: Clarence "Bud"
Weiland, Jr. and his wife, Berniece, Storm Lake, Iowa; Don Weiland and his wife,
Darlene; Dean Weiland and his wife, Elaine, all of Britt, Iowa; 21
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marcella Dwire, Plymouth,
Iowa; Theresa Studer, Mason City, Iowa.
