Obituary


Leonard G. Olk, age 81 of Hampton passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Leonard George, son of Toby and Clara Brammer Olk was born born August 10,1931 on a farm north of Latimer. He grew up in the Hampton and Latimer area where Leonard attended school. Leonard graduated from Hampton High School in 1949. After high school he farmed with his father. In January 1952, Leonard entered the US Army. He served as a cook until he was honorably discharged in December of 1953. Upon Leonard's return to Latimer, he farmed with his father and later he worked as a mechanic for Gunnar Hansen at the implement in Latimer.

Leonard moved to Hot Springs, SD where he lived in a Veterans Home. He also lived at the Veterans Home in Knoxville for a short time. In 1990 he moved to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown and then to the Rehabilitation Center in Hampton in 2002.

Leonard was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. He enjoyed target shooting, fishing and hunting.  Leonard had a self-taught talent for playing the accordion. He used his talent to entertain friends and family alike.

Leonard is survived by his sister, Frances Larsen (Richard) of Hampton; eight nieces and nephews, Judy (Ralph) Davenport, Joyce (Tim) Borcherding, Janet (Brett) Morgan, Cheryl (Phil) Rusley, Bruce (Annette) Harris, Linda (Terry) Hainzinger, Audrey Larsen, Alan (Christie) Larsen and a host of friends.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mildred Harris Peyton and nephew David.
