Obituary


Le Roy G. Love, of Britt, went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2012 at the age of 88 at Hancock County Health System in Britt.

Funeral services for LeRoy Love will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street SW, in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Le Roy was born on July 20th, 1924 in Mason City, Iowa to Hattie (Castle) and Willis Love.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving three years in the U.S. Navy. He had enlisted in the Navy while in his senior year of high school, so he never graduated. Through the efforts of his daughter, Lyla, he was able to receive his high school diploma on his 80th Birthday.

On December 9th, 1945, he married the love of his life, Lillian Mae Blair in Pensacola, Florida.  They made their home in and around Britt, where for the next forty years he worked as a building contractor, leaving a legacy of many houses and buildings in Britt.

He was a member of the American Legion for sixty-seven years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to gun shows and antique sales, and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida and eating seafood.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years Lillian Love. His children:  Lyla (Warren) Hamand of Nora Springs, Tom (Jane) Love of Jacksonville, Florida, Alan (Jennie) Love of Mason City, and Laurie (Don) Homan of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Mary (Clint) Weilert and Jackson of Overland Park, Kansas, Cassandra (Monte) Halls and Conner Hage of Des Moines, Nikki Moore and Madison of Jacksonville, Florida, Travis Love of Boca Raton, Florida, Alan Jr. (Christina) Love and Logan, Laci, Landon and Lanie of Palmdale, California, Daniel (Shannon) Love and Jonathan and Madelyn of Mason City, Jacob, Samuel and Sarah Homan of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
