LeRoy H. Goeman, 78, of Belmond, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at
UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services for LeRoy Goeman will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 1:30
PM at the Immanuel Reformed Church, 3157 130th Street in rural Belmond with
Pastor Dave DeKuiper officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Reformed
Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at
Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond.
LeRoy Henry, son of Henry and Jennie (Stadtlander) Goeman, was born on October
15, 1942 at the Belmond Hospital. LeRoy spent his early years growing up on the
family farm east of Belmond. At 10 years old he moved into town and finished
school.
On July 6, 1962, LeRoy was united in marriage to Shirley Wessels at Bethany
Reformed Church in Belmond. The couple made their home on the family farm east
of Belmond where they raised their three children. LeRoy farmed with Shirley's
father, William Wessels, for a few years before working at Winnebago Trailers
and later National By-Products for 25 years. LeRoy retired from Golden Harvest
Seeds in 2005.
LeRoy loved attending auctions, visiting farm shows, collecting antiques,
driving old farm tractors and purchasing farm toys. In his spare time, LeRoy
enjoyed painting ceramics for family and friends. They traveled around the
United States on bus tours and visited many great attractions.
LeRoy enjoyed a good chat with anyone, even a stranger. He was often seen having
coffee at True Value with friends. Church was a big part of his life. He was a
Deacon and an Elder at Bethany Reformed Church and was a member at Immanuel
Reformed Church. LeRoy also served on the Retirement Center board for around ten
years.
LeRoy is survived by his wife Shirley of Belmond; three children Bill (Carol)
Goeman of Meservey, Bob (Deb) Goeman of Omaha, NE, and Pam (Ted) Calkins of
Collins; nine grandchildren Kyle Goeman, Westley Goeman, Amanda Goeman, Crystal
Tulp, Anna Goeman, Cheyenne Randels, Benjamin Goeman, Angela Calkins, and
Rebecca Calkins; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Fred Weide; and nephews.
