Obituary

Lester A. Kirschbaum, 76, of Crystal Lake passed away on July 14, 2018 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Crystal Lake Fire Department, 225 North State Street in Crystal Lake.

Lester Aloys Kirschbaum was born on June 30, 1942 in Titonka to Raymond & Lucille (Gelner) Kirschbaum. He was raised in rural Crystal Lake where he attended Crystal Lake Community School until he was a Sophomore.

He was married on October 14, 1961 to Kathleen Hengesteg. To this union six beautiful, rambunctious, children were born.

Lester was a member of the Crystal Lake School Board, the Crystal Lake Elevator Board, and the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt.

He enjoyed mechanic work on auto and small engines which led to happy hour in the shed with his cronies and furry friends. He took a few trips to Canada fishing and used his handy man skills wood-working and completing restoration projects, but he was most content on the farm.

He was always happy so see his family spend time on the farm, but he was also happy to be the first to bed. He was very excited to become a great-grandfather for the first time this fall.

Lester is survived by his children David (Penny) Kirschbaum, Dan Kirschbaum, Donovan (Diana) Kirschbaum, Bradley (Michelle) Kirschbaum, Leslie (Chad Emhoff) Kofron, Monica "Sam" (Pete) Gau; grandchildren Chelsie (Blair) Howe, Rachel Kirschbaum, Hannah (Eric) Spear, Kyler Kirschbaum, Dillon Kirschbaum, Hailey Kofron, Cody Plymesser, Colton Kirschbaum, Brittany Kirschbaum, Kendall Kirschbaum, Beau Kirschbaum, Riley Kirschbaum, Kelsey Kirschbaum, Bentley Kirschbaum; brother Jim (Janice) Kirschbaum; sister-in-law Esther Kirschbaum; and many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Bob, and his dogs Smoky and Sadie.
