Obituary


Linda Thayer, 71, of Portage, Wisconsin, former resident of Webster City, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Tivoli Care Center in Portage, Wisconsin.

Funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Belmond United Methodist Church with Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial took place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Linda Kaye Hanson, daughter of Roger Hanson and Nadine Bohnett, was born on July 12, 1944. She was raised in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1962. She then attended beauty school in Des Moines.

On March 22, 1976, she married Claude A. Thayer. The couple resided in Webster City, where Claude worked as a diesel mechanic for Lupus Transport and Linda was a devoted housewife. They raised three children then relocated to Thayer, Missouri in 1992. Claude passed away April 10, 2006 and Linda moved to Portage, Wisconsin where she was closer to her eldest daughter. Throughout her adult life, Linda was passionately devoted to her family, God, and country. She was dedicated to learning God's word and about American history, much of which was reflected in her writing and poetry. She had a genuine compassion for others and was generous to those in need. She loved people and accepted them without fault. Her gentle spirit and light will be missed by many.

Linda is survived by her two daughters Melissa (John) Abbott of Westfield, WI and Julie (Bill Schardan) Thayer of St. Louis, MO; and her son Bret (Jamie) Thayer of Medaryville, IN. She's also survived by two sisters Lois Schwartz and Jackie Howe; 6 brothers Loren, Eugene, Dennis, Ronald, Rick Lyons and James Lyons; as well as nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, her son Scotty Phifer, her brother Terry, and niece Amanda Gomez Cook.
