Linda Lou Bundy was born August 18, 1948 to Glendon Wayne and Dorothy Louise
(Boehmer) Bundy in Riceville, Iowa. She was the second of seven children, and
was raised and educated in the McIntire area, attending country school through
the 7th grade. She graduated from Riceville High School with the Class of 1966.
Following high school, Linda worked as a secretary at Lutheran Mutual in
Waverly, Iowa. She was set up on a blind date with a young soldier home on leave
named Eldon "Butch" Funte by his sister, Glenda, whom Linda babysat for. The
two exchanged letters during Eldon's deployment and soon were engaged. The
couple were married on June 7, 1969 at Waverly, Iowa, and made their home at
Fort Riley, Kansas.
After Eldon was discharged, the couple lived on the Bundy family farm in
Mitchell County, then on a farm south of Clarion for a few years before moving
in to Clarion, where they raised their four daughters, Michelle, Missi, Mindi
and Marci.
Linda was a homemaker in the early years of the marriage, and she ran a daycare
out of her home in Clarion for a number of years, caring for countless children
of all ages. In 1993, she began working at Places in Clarion, which later
became Pamida and then Shopko, until 2011 when Eldon became sick. He passed
away on June 27, 2012.
Linda was baptized at the Clarion Church of Christ, where she was a longtime
member. She taught Children's Church (Sunday School) for years, was a member of
the Clarion Christian Women's Club, and enjoyed the church fellowship group,
"Tuesdays at Ten." She was also a member of the Clarion American Legion
Auxiliary.
Linda enjoyed gardening, and could nurse sick flowers back to health. African
Violets were her favorite. She crocheted and sewed. She and Eldon enjoyed
square dancing and playing cards with the family.
Linda's love language was "acts of service." She cared for so many people, from
her own family and friends, to her church family and members of the community of
Clarion. She was very loving and accepting of people, she never met a stranger,
and it was not uncommon for her holiday dinner table to have a guest or two that
may not have had anywhere else to go.
Linda will be lovingly remembered for her great faith, loving smile and
welcoming hugs.
Linda is survived by her children, Michelle (Kevin) Engle of West Des Moines,
Missi Funte of Clarion, Mindi Thompson of Lincoln IL, and Marci (Shawn) Krueger
of Eldridge; grandchildren Lee (Sammy) Engle, Glen (Emily) Engle, Gabrielle
(Ben) Glover, Tabitha (Michael) Mullenax, and Sorhn Krueger; 5
great-grandchildren; siblings Glenda (Ron) Thompson of Byron, Minnesota, Harvey
(Betty) Bundy of Charles City, Iowa, Wanda Lilly of Stewartville, Minnesota,
Louise Winfield of Rochester, Minnesota, Brenda (Ed) Booth of Mason City, and
Kathy (Daryl) Valasek of Riceville; along with numerous nieces and nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon, and brother-in-law
Tony Lilly.
