Lois Ann was born to Milford and Gladys (Soma) Mehl on September 2, 1932, near Kanawha. She lived in Belmond her entire life and graduated from Belmond High School in 1950. She enjoyed band, chorus, spelling contests and roller skating.

Her greatest joy was caring for and serving her family and friends. She was united in marriage to Frank Patterson in 1954 and was blessed with four children. Lois loved being a full-time homemaker and mother to her children. She was active in their lives teaching Sunday School, VBS, and was a Camp Fire and a Cub Scout leader. She and Frank later divorced and remained friends.

In her earlier years, Lois worked in the office at General Mills. After raising her children, she sold Avon, where she received many awards, worked at PSI and as a CNA at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lois enjoyed serving in women’s and children’s ministries. Her faith in God was important to her as evident in her gentle and loving spirit, her joy in serving and her faithful stewardship.

Lois enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning, sewing and playing cards and board games. In her later years, she also delighted in traveling with a group of friends.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her children: Mark (Judy) of West Des Moines, Craig (Lynn) and Curt (Brenda) of Cedar Falls, and Lori (Scott) Ward of Norwalk; thirteen grandchildren: Ben Patterson (Liz), Joe Patterson (Ashley), Alex Patterson, Bill Patterson, Lucas Patterson (Katie), Tony Patterson (Lisa), T.J.
