Obituary


Lois M. Lesher, 94, of Clarion passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services for Lois Lesher will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Pastor Mike Gudka officiating.  Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held beginning at 12:00 PM until service time at the church on Saturday.

Lois Miriam, daughter of Lee and Elma (McClelland) Buchwalter, was born on December 19, 1924 in rural Riverside, Iowa. She was raised and graduated high school there. After high school, Lois attended University of Iowa for one year followed by one year at Mount St. Clair in Clinton.

Lois met her future husband, Melvin Lesher, in Iowa City while he was a cadet in the service. On April 5, 1945, Lois and Melvin were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Iowa City and made their home in Pensacola, Florida, where Melvin was stationed. They relocated to the Lesher family farm west of Clarion in 1946, where they continued to make their home and raised their family.

Lois was a longtime active member of the Clarion United Methodist Church, where she was involved with UMW group, Sunday school superintendent, and helped with church historical work. Lois was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Eastern Star.

Lois was a master gardener and loved bird watching. She enjoyed traveling, including a trip to the Netherlands to visit a granddaughter. Visiting and spending time with family was most important to her.

Lois is survived by son-in-law Gary Sweeney, son David (Carol) Lesher, daughter Rhonda Dickerson, and daughter Linda (Steve) Jurrens; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin and daughter Melanie.
