Obituary


Lucille Breen Sampson, 88, of Britt passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Lucille, the daughter of Charles E. and Johannah Josephine (Collins) Breen was born December 12, 1917, at Ames, Iowa.  She attended St. Cecilia's grade school in Ames and graduated from Roland High School in 1936.  She graduated from American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1938.

Lucille was united in marriage with Donald E. Sampson on June 7, 1939 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa by Reverend Joseph Campbell.  To this union were born three children: Josephine Marie, Patricia Ann, and Jerome Edward.

Don and Lucille farmed at Roland, Iowa before moving to Britt in 1947.  They moved from the Britt area in 1961 and eventually retired to Prescott Valley, Arizona.  They moved back to the Britt area in 1995 to be close to family.  Lucille was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; Women's Catholic Order of Foresters; Catholic Daughters of America; and St. Patrick's Work Group.

Lucille is survived by her three children: Josephine (Sampson) Lang and her husband, Edward of Port Aransas, Texas; Patricia (Sampson) Byers of Britt and her four sons, Todd Byers and his wife, Kim of Altoona; Dr. James Byers and his wife, Dana of Minnetrista, Minnesota; Jeff Byers and his wife, Kristine of Cedar Falls and Gregory Byers and his wife, Michelle of Cedar Falls; Jerome Sampson of Brighton, Colorado and his two children, Theodore Sampson and his wife Toni and Westminster, Colorado; and Rebecca (Sampson) Backo and her husband Steve of Brighton, Colorado; and Jeanne Sampson of Arvada, Colorado; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Sampson on August 16, 2001; her parents; a brother, C. Raymond Breen on October 6, 1976; and a sister, Marie (Breen) Evenson on January 24, 1985.
