Lucille Evelyn (Sweers) DeWaard, 92, of Britt, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services for Lucille DeWaard will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East 3rd Street, in Kanawha with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating.  Interment will follow at Corwith Cemetery in Corwith. Visitation will be held from  6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.  Lucille was born on February 1, 1923, to John and Sena (Smidt) Sweers on the family farm southwest of Britt. She attended the Boone Township School, graduated from Britt High School, and received her teaching degree from Britt Junior College. She then taught for several years in the rural school system of Hancock County. Lucille married Adrian J. DeWaard on February 25, 1948, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church parsonage. They made their home in Corwith, where they farmed for many years. They were blessed with six children. Lucille was the consummate mother and her children were the joy and focus of her life. The love of her life, Adrian, passed away on November 24, 1994. After a stroke in November of 2007, she moved to the Summit House in Britt until her recent passing. Lucille is survived by her children, Allan (Sue) DeWaard and their children, Jon (Laura Ann) DeWaard, and Lisa (Kirk) DeWaard-McDermott; Judy (Ralph) Oltman and their children Terri (Bryson) Oltman Rast, Brian Oltman, Valerie (Troy) Shoen; Dr. David DeWaard; Arnold (Lois) DeWaard; son-in-law Mark (Monica) Heard and their children, Stephanie (Greg) Dingel, Andy Heard, Brady (Jena) Heard, and Kaci Heard; Mark (Becky) DeWaard and their children Joe (Willie) DeWaard and Michael (Heather) DeWaard; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Clint) Moldenhauer; brother, Herman (Sally) Sweers; sisters-in-law, Francine Sweers, Rosie Sweers, and Ann Uken; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Mary; grandson, Isaac Dykstra; granddaughter, Tara DeWaard; sister, Carrie (Clarence) Schaefer; brothers, Jake (Margaret) Sweers, Louis (Joan) Sweers, Elmer Sweers, and Ben Sweers. In lieu of flowers, Lucille's family suggests that memorials may be given in her honor to the Hancock County Health System Foundation.
