LuElla J Pannkuk

LuElla Pannkuk, 91, of Britt passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City after a long struggle with health issues.

Funeral services for LuElla Pannkuk will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 10:30 AM at First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue North West in Britt with Pastor Willie Rosin officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday.

LuElla was born May 28, 1927, at Pomeroy, Iowa, to John and Jennie (Kleen) Holtorf. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1942, and graduated from Woden High School, Woden, Iowa in 1944. She worked at home until she married Bernard Pannkuk on September 12, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Titonka, Iowa.

After their marriage, the couple started farming north of Woden and later moved to a farm north of Britt where they lived until 2016 when their health declined. During those years, LuElla also worked part-time for Krause Department Store and the Britt Liquor Store.

LuElla was a member of First Lutheran Church in Britt. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing, gardening, and crafts, especially crocheting afghans in her later years. The couple enjoyed spending their winters at their home in Pharr, Texas for several years.

LuElla is survived by her husband Bernard of Britt, a son Dennis (Jill) of Clear Lake and  a daughter, Diane (Rayneal) McKim of Altoona, Iowa; grandchildren Matthew (Paulina Poplawska) Pannkuk, Amy (Ross) Hughes, Joshua Pannkuk, Michael (Cindy) McKim, Stacey McKim and Molly (Mike Vincent) McKim; great granddaughters Emma Hughes, Breanna, Alicia and Zoe McKim; her siblings, Norman (Lenora) Holtorf  of Hastings, MN; LaVern (Jane) Holtorf of Ankeny, Iowa, Mary Weiland of Nevada, Iowa, and Lori (Jim) Kapler of Urbandale, Iowa, as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jennie Holtorf, her brothers Robert Holtorf, Alvin Holtorf; sisters-in-law Marvella Holtorf, Marlene Holtorf, Lois Holtorf, and brother-in-law Roland Weiland.
