Obituary


Luella Lenora “Rusty” (Harp) Stutters, 89, of Clarion, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services for Rusty Stutters will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 121 Third Avenue North West, in Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Luella Lenora, affectionately known as “Rusty,” the daughter of Gerald and Mary (Crow) Harp was born September 29, 1921 in Bedford, Iowa.

Rusty attended elementary school in Bedford, and graduated from high school in Toledo, Iowa in 1939 and attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947. Rusty was united in marriage to Lionel E. Filmer in 1943.  Lionel was killed in battle during World War II in 1945.

Rusty was united in marriage to Homer E. “Bud” Stutters in 1947.  The couple worked together in their piano tuning and service business for 53 years.  Bud passed away in 2002.

Rusty was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational and served on many committees, including president of Women’s Fellowship, as chair of the Mission & Social Action Committee, as a Sunday school teacher, and numerous other roles.

Rusty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and served as Past Matron.  She was also a member of the National Federation of the Blind.

Rusty enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.  For more than 25 years, she made hundreds of canvas Christmas tree ornaments, which she shared with family and friends.  She also enjoyed reading and music, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Rusty is survived by her two nephews: Thomas (Cindy) Smith of Seattle, Washington, and Steven Smith of Los Angeles, California; three great nieces; Goddaughter Erin (Morse) Biggs of Skagway, Alaska; and numerous close friends.

Rusty is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Lionel Filmer and Bud Stutters, her sister Mary Helen Gesmacher, her brother Gerald Harp, Jr., her sister-in-law Mary Stutters Farmer, and her nephew, Jim Smith.
