Obituary


Lyle Meyers, 91, of Corwith passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Kossuth Regional Hospital in Algona.

Funeral services Lyle Meyers will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Britt Zion Church of the Nazarene, 195 2nd Street South West, in Britt with Pastor Chris Burrell officiating.  Burial will be held in Corwith Cemetery in Corwith.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Corwith Community Center in Corwith and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Lyle Eldon Meyers, son of Donald and Florence (Bogard) Meyers, was born on December 6, 1927 on the family farm near Corwith, Iowa.  He attended a one room school for four years and completed grade school at Corwith Consolidated in Corwith where he also graduated from High School in 1946.

He farmed with his brother, Leonard, until entering the U.S. Army in 1950 where he served for two years during the Korean War.  After schooling two months in Quartermaster School in Etajima, Japan, he spent 17 months as a Clerk Typist in Headquarters of the 55th Quartermaster Battalion in Pusa, Korea.

After the war duties, he again chose farming on the family farm for 43 years until retirement.  Other part time employment was in the Court Houses of Garner and Mason City for 9 years and as a Winnebago Motor home delivery driver for 34 years out of Forest City, Iowa.  Other part time work was office clerk for the Iowa Highway Patrol and office work for a brokerage firm in Louisville, Kentucky.

On November 17, 1956 he was united in marriage with Beverly Ann Sanquist at the Zion Church of the Nazarene at Britt, Iowa. The couple lived in Corwith, Britt and the family farm at Corwith until retirement when they once again moved into Corwith.  They are the parents of three children: Janelle, Eldon and Bradley.

His interests were his family, church, reading, travel, music and sports.  He was privileged to travel in all 50 states and many foreign countries.  After retirement he was a volunteer for the Algona and Mason City hospitals.  He was a published author of a book on motor home driving.

Lyle was a member of the Zion Church of the Nazarene at Britt, Iowa where he has served as Board member, Sunday School teacher, choir member and church treasurer.  He accepted Christ as his Saviour as a boy at the First Baptist Church in Corwith, Iowa.  This faith has continued throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beverly of Corwith, three children: Janelle and her husband, Doug Kerns of Bettendorf and their children, Thaddeus (Sara), Trinity (Heather), Thomas (Lisa) and Nathan; Eldon and his wife, LaDonna of Corwith and their children, Cora (Kris)Weins, Terry and Karen; Bradley and his wife, Laura of Pleasant Hill and their children, Kristina, Joshua, Micah, Noah (Elizabeth), Ruth, Sarah, Chloe and Darius; six great-grandchildren, one brother Leonard Meyers and his wife Margaret of Prescott Valley, Arizona; several cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Florence Meyers and brother, Merlin in infancy.
