Lynn Alan Cooke was born March 10, 1960 to Bernadine Belle (Summers) and Robert
Bertram Cooke Jr. He was raised in Belmond, Iowa where he spent his high school
years wrestling, playing football and running track. He participated in Boy
Scouts and had the honor of trekking in Philmont with his father. Lynn began his
career working with his father in the shop on automobiles and small engines at
SuperAmerica. He then went on to work at Eaton Corp in the maintenance
department and later at Packard Electric, where he began his life long career in
the electrical business. He married Jodi Slocum in 1986 and to this union, his
beloved daughter, Tori Kay was born. Lynn's career as a union electrician took
him to Des Moines where he worked for CI3 for over 25 years as a project
manager. He retired early and took a year off to enjoy life and friends.
Retirement didn't suit him for long and he joined the workforce again as an
estimator and inspector for System Works. In late 2022 he retired for the last
time.
He has spent the last year remodeling and repairing his home in Runnells after
it was hit by a tornado. As Lynn's family and friends can attest, he had a
particular approach to perfecting all projects, meaning he insisted on doing
most of the work himself. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting with his
friends, grilling, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his daughter.
He was an amazing friend and held dear his acquaintances for life. Lynn was the
youngest of three children, having two older sisters. They might joke that he
was a spoiled brat but all who knew him would attest that he was also a loving
father and friend that would be there for you any time, day or night.
Lynn was an animal lover, caring at one point in time for 4 dogs and 5 cats. In
the evening, you could find him unwinding in his reclining chair with a lap full
of his fur babies. He had the kind of personality that attracted all animals,
whether he was at home or at friends' houses.
Lynn leaves cherished memories with his daughter Tori Cooke of Ankeny, IA, mom
Bernadine Cooke of Belmond, IA, 2 sisters, Diane (Jon) Crawford of Belmond, IA,
and Debra (Wendel) Whipple of Mason City, IA, nieces Rachel, Jennifer, and
Summer, and nephew Brent, as well as numerous Great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Dad, Robert Cooke Jr, his grandparents, Hiram
and Gladys Summers, Robert Cooke Sr & Genevieve Cooke, and his nephew Jacob
Lidel.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Lynn's name to the local
animal shelter.
