Margie "Marge" Elder Parker was born on February 5, 1936, in West Plains, MO, to
Thurlow "Earl" and Freida (Warbington) Parker. The family later moved to Red
Oak, IA, where she graduated high school in 1952. On August 2, 1957, she was
united in marriage to Don Yoder in Woolstock, where they made their home. After
Don's unexpected death in 1963, Marge became a homemaker, focusing on her
family. On November 11, 1967, she married Gerald "Nick" Nickles in Woolstock,
and together they raised her three children as a family. For years Marge
volunteered as the head coach for the Woolstock Twins baseball team. She loved
her years with the team and became well known around the area for her
high-spirited coaching style. Throughout her life, Marge continued to receive
comments from former players telling of the significant impact she made during
her coaching years. When her children became older, Marge worked for Farm
Journal, as a telecommunications supervisor. She enjoyed spending time outside,
tending to her garden and flowers. She was meticulous about her yard, not
allowing anyone else to mow it, and was still taking care of it this past
summer.
Marge's greatest love in life was her family, and she excelled in filling their
lives with endless amounts of love and laughter. She was the perfect grandma and
could often be found in the front row of her grandchildren's activities.
Throughout the years, she never missed one and was often the loudest cheerleader
at sporting events. The grandchildren loved their frequent sleepovers at
grandma's house where hours were spent playing Skip-Bo, Uno and watching
professional wrestling (of course with an endless supply of popcorn). Sunday
nights were spent at Marge's for family dinners, where the grandchildren
frequently selected the menu. Most recently she loved spending time with her
great-grandchildren, with whom she continued her tradition of laughter and
unconditional love.
Marge is survived by her children, Dan (Suzanne) Yoder of Webster City and
Denise (Darron) Baker of Eagle Grove; stepson, Ronnie (Brenda) Fortune of
Woolstock; grandchildren, Billie Jo Yoder, Melissa (Ben) Hengesteg, Derek (Lisa)
Baker, Ben (Bri) Hull, Brandon Mohr (Maggie Breitenkamp) and Jaclyn (Jed) Byers;
great-grandchildren, Vanessa Wickett, Clare and Caroline Hengesteg, Tyson
Heaberlin, Olivia and Ella Baker, Alana and Sofie Simmons, Franklin Mohr and
Brynn Byers and siblings, Harry (Karin) Parker of Joplin, MO and Gerri Fortune
of Woolstock.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Yoder and Gerald "Nick" Nickles;
parents and daughter, Deborah Huffman.
