Marian Agnes Barker, 89, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at
the Careage of Clarion in Clarion.
Memorial services for Marian Barker will be held Monday, December 15, 2008 at
11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison
officiating. Private family burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.
Marian Agnes Jennison was born on April 26, 1919 to Clark H. Jennison and Effie
Ford at Riceville, Iowa. She moved to Wright County in 1929 and received her
education in area schools graduating in 1938 from Clarion High School. After
graduation, she worked as a cashier at the Clarion Theatre and later as
receptionist and bookkeeper for the Jaqua Monitor.
In 1941, she was united in marriage to Clare L. Barker in Algona, Iowa. They
made their home here in Clarion. To this union two sons were born – James L. and
Thomas C.
In 1959 after the death of her husband she began work for the Wright County
State Bank (later Brenton Bank) as bookkeeper and later assistant cashier. She
held this position until she retired in 1984 and worked when they needed her.
Her memberships include a 20 year member of the LA to B.H.R.T., Heart Memorial
Chairman for Wright County for 20 years – Methodist Church, and the V.F.W.
Marian is survived by her sons: James L. Barker, Thomas C. Barker; two
granddaughters: Connie and Cindy; a special sister: Margaret Scheffelman of
Corwith, nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.
