Obituary


Marie Elizabeth Raber, 90, passed away, Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at the Kanawha Community Home.

Marie, the daughter of Harry and Martha (Rawding) Lipscomb, was born August 10, 1906, in Champaign, Illinois.  She attended schools in Normal, Illinois.  On August 11, 1924, she was united in marriage with Roland Schaefer in Bloomington, Illinois.  To this union four children were born, Evelyn, Dolores, June and Lyle.  Roland passed away in 1937.  On July 1, 1939, she was united in marriage with Harry C. Raber in St. Louis, Missouri.  The couple lived in Denhart, Iowa, before moving to the Kanawha area in 1941.  To this union a daughter was born, Charlotte.  Marie worked at the Kanawha Reporter, the Kalvig Care and the Lousch Bakery. She also took in laundry for people.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Marie is survived by two daughters: Dolores Hayworth and her husband, Norman of Garner, and Charlotte Gabrielson and her husband, Gary of Belmond; one son: Lyle Schaefer and his wife, Sheila of Marion, IN; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, two daughters - June Friedow and Evelyn Schaefer, and one granddaughter - Martha Friedow Brass.
