Obituary


Marie Elysabeth McGinnis, 96, passed away Sunday, May 24, 1992 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California.

Marie, the daughter of Charles and Elisa (Weis) Miller, was born April 11, 1896 in Tonica, Illinois.  At the age of four she moved with her family to Britt, Iowa.  She graduated from Britt High School in 1914 and went on to study at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, receiving a Bachelors Degree from the School of Music.

On August 28, 1931, she was united in marriage with Guy McGinnis at Britt.  Marie taught music in the community for many years.

She was active in the Congregational Church in Britt all of her life.  She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 71 years having been 8th District President, a charter member of Chapter G.F. of the PEO and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a 69 year member of the King's Daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy, who passed away August 13, 1967; four brothers: Karl, Rudolph, Joseph and Mark Miller.

Survivors include two daughters: Carol Lavender, Ventura, California; Judith Ann Webb and husband, Daneil, Madison Heights, Michigan; three grandsons: Paul Elwood, San Leandro, California; Andrew Elwood and wife Vicki, Huntington Beach, California; Andrew Elwood and wife, Carol Des Moines, Iowa; six great-grandchildren.
