Marie Ann Wilson, 74, of Britt passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011, at her
home in Britt.
Funeral services for Marie Wilson will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011,
at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue NW, in Britt with
Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, from 5:00 pm until
7:00 pm at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will
continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marie Ann was born on June 4, 1937, to Fred and Etta (Bruns) Mayland in Wesley,
Iowa, and was the youngest of 12 children. Marie grew up in Britt and graduated
from Britt High School. She then attended junior college in Chicago and received
a degree in business.
On April 8, 1956, Marie was united in marriage to John Wilson at First Lutheran
Church in Britt. The couple made their home in Kanawha, Iowa and then moved to
Britt, where they ran a pool hall and were also in the restaurant business until
1979.
Marie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt and was a member of the
First Lutheran "Quilters". She loved traveling, reading, quilting, cooking, and
working at the Titanium Lunchbox.
Marie is survived by her children: Bonny Fox of Garner, Larry Wilson of Colorado
Springs, Colorado, Michael Wilson of Britt, and Deborah Wilson Lau of Albert
Lea, Minnesota; grandchildren: Troy (Tina) Fox, Alex Lau, Haley Lau, and Keith
Lau. Two sisters: Helen (Henry) Gremmer of Britt and Erlene Schutter of Titonka;
brother Walbert Mayland, Sr. of Britt; and sisters-in-law Ina Mayland of Clear
Lake and Beverly Mayland of Britt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; siblings: Herman,
Jeanette Gremmer, William, Engaline, Ben, Lewis, Donald, and Ernest;
sister-in-law Caroline Mayland; and brothers-in-law Stoffer Gremmer and Franklin
Schutter.
