Obituary


Marilyn Rae (Schossow) Halblom-Schutt, 62, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Memorial services for Marilyn Schutt will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Pastor Mike Gudka officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Marilyn Rae Schossow was born on August 3, 1952, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Dorcas (Stearns) Schossow. In 1970, she graduated from Pocahontas High School. She lived in Des Moines and Clarion.

In 1972, she married David Halblom. She had one son from that union, David Halblom, Jr. In 1981, they were divorced. In 1984, she married Klaas (Andy) Schutt. They made their home in Clarion. Her favorite job was being the First United Methodist Church secretary, where she retired from in 2011.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Marilyn enjoyed putting puzzles together and traveling with her husband when possible.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Klaas “Andy”; son, David (Angie) Halblom Jr. of Indianola; grandsons, Xavier James Halblom and Spencer Robert Halblom; sisters, Jeanne Schossow of Des Moines, Francie (Pete) Dallman of Iowa City and Phyllis (Gary) Woodley of Jefferson; step-sisters, Nancy (Tom) Arne of Goldfield and Dianna (Mike) Goodell of Eldora; sister-in-law, Elyse Hetland; two nephews; three nieces; four step-nephews; three step-nieces and several great nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father; mother and step-father, John Brazier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
