Marjean L. Urness, 83, of Clarion passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at her home.

A Celebration of Life service for Marjean Urness will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church, 420 First Street North West in Clarion, with Pastor Nicole Woodley officiating.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Marjean Lucille Urness was born November 11, 1932 to Clarence and Alice (Wunderlich) Fogelson in Kenyon, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1950.

Marjean was united in marriage to Arlan Urness on June 11, 1950 in Nerstrand, Minnesota. To this union, children Richard, Daniel and Jodi were born.

Marjean and Arlie began their married life in West Concord, Minnesota, where they owned and operated a produce business. They later moved to Kenyon, Minnesota, where they ran a construction business, building many new homes.

In 1960, Marjean and Arlie moved to Clarion, where they purchased the hardware business from the Shupe family. They continued to operate the business until recent years, when son Dan took over the reins. Marjean loved working in the store, especially in the paint and appliance departments. After more than 50 years in business, Marjean thought of their customers as friends and family.

Marjean was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Clarion, active in a variety of ways.

In addition to working full-time at the store until recent years, Marjean served in leadership positions with Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls when her children were active, and loved spending time attending a variety of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events.

Marjean enjoyed flower gardening, watching and feeding birds and squirrels in the back yard, decorating, arranging flowers, fishing and traveling with family on vacations to Florida for the past 30 years.

Marjean was loving, warm and welcoming and looked for the best in people without judging. She enjoyed hosting family dinners on Sundays and holidays, and often sought to include others who had no family of their own.

Marjean’s family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to the First Lutheran Church youth group or the United Methodist Church Community youth group.

Marjean is survived by Arlie, her husband of more than 65 years; son Ric (Brenda) Urness of Gobles, Michigan and their children Erica (Doug) Huizenga and children Kaya and Eli of Bangor, Michigan and Todd (Laura) Urness and children Clementine and Calliope of Kalamazoo, Michigan; son Dan (Michele) Urness of Clarion and their children Adam Urness of Indianola, Molly Urness of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Abby Urness and daughter Charlotte of Mason City and Samuel Urness of Clarion; and daughter Jodi (Harley) Tapper of Webster City and their children Sarah (John) Staudt and children Levi and Jacob of Rockwell, Iowa, Rachel (Ryan) Meyer of Ankeny, Iowa, and David (Whitney) Tapper and children Wesley and Natalie of Huxley, Iowa; siblings Verlaine (Rodney) Duncan of Rochester, Minnesota, Ronald (Kay) Fogelson of Fort Myers, Florida, Harold (Sandra) Fogelson of Kenyon, Minnesota and Harriet (James) Gloss of Page, Arizona; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marjean was preceded in death by her parents and brother Leonard Fogelson.
