Obituary


Marjorie D. (Olson) Halfpop, 86, of Belmond, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Public graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Belmond Cemetery with Pastor Jim Gochenouer officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond.

Those who attend will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines.

Marjorie Delores , daughter of Oscar and Anna (Ganseveld) Olson, was born on September 3, 1934 at home in Britt Iowa. She grew up in Britt where she attended the local schools.

After high school, Marjorie was united in marriage to Lloyd Halfpop at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on January 5, 1951. The couple moved to the Kanawha area and started working on the family farm together. She enjoyed driving the tractors, hauling wagons, and caring for the farm animals. She had a very large garden that she canned vegetables from.

Marjorie was employed by North Iowa woods until the business closed. She then began working for the Kanawha Community Home where she retired after 25 years. Marjorie moved to town after the passing of her husband.

During her retirement, Marjorie kept busy by keeping a watchful eye on the neighborhood, enjoying Western movies, creating beautiful quilts, and crocheting baby blankets & afghans.

Marjorie was remembered for being a kind, gentle lady with red rosy cheeks and big heart. Working hard from before the sun was up to long after the sun went down and never complaining. She was also remembered for her cooking and baking. She always offered cookies when you came in the door.

Marjorie is survived by daughter Marlene (David) Black of Belmond, their children Amanda Minor and son Brayden, Cody (Val) Minor, Chris (Tara) Black and children Blake and Greyson (G-Dog), Davey (Rachel Gettman) Black and children London, Trinity and Greyson; surviving son of Larry Halfpop: Jason (Denise) Halfpop and children Tristan, Jayden and Grant; surviving daughters of Linda (Halfpop) Bruggeman: Stacy Wellington, Missy Bruggeman, Chrissy (Scott) Jones and children Danielle, Faith, and Gunner, Patty Bruggeman (Rickey Etter); son Allen (Rhonda) Halfpop of Mason City, their children Allison (Josh) Feldman and daughter Ashlyn, Tyler (Jennifer) Halfpop and children, Shepherd and Iris; only surviving sister Arlene Schujter; sisters-in-law Charlotte Olson, Elaine Olson and Shirley Olson along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Halfpop, son Larry Halfpop, daughter Linda (Halfpop) Bruggeman; sisters Bonnie Olson, Betty Lowe, Marcella Krambeer; brothers Jim, Kenneth, Merrill, Robert; Sister-in-law Frieda Olson; brothers-in-law JC Lowe, George Krambeer and Kenneth Schujter.
