Obituary


Marjorie L. VanDeventer, 90, of Estherville, formerly of Crystal Lake, passed Sunday, December 7, 2003, at Avera Holy Family Health Services in Estherville, Iowa.

Marjorie, the daughter of Gus Everett and Sadie Ella (Hamilton) Wasson, was born July 31, 1913, near Ewart in Poweshiek County, Iowa.  She graduated from Montezuma High School and went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College.  Marjorie then taught school in Kellogg, Iowa, before her marriage.

On June 11, 1938, Marjorie was united marriage with Clell (Van) Bruce VanDeventer at the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.  The couple lived in various cities in Iowa before settling in Crystal Lake.  Most recently Marjorie moved to Estherville to be near her daughter.

Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, the United Methodist Women of Crystal Lake and a neighborhood coffee group.

Marjorie is survived by one son, James VanDeventer of Post Falls, Idaho; three daughters: Carol Feddern and her husband, Gary of Estherville, Mary Griffin and her husband, David, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Lynne Scheuler and her husband, Gordon of Fairbury, Nebraska; five grandchildren, and one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Van, in 1994, and brother, Fay Wasson.
