Obituary


Mark. F. Miller (Monty), 68, passed away Thursday, October 24, 1996, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Mark (Monty), the son of Mark F. and Katherina (Barnes) Miller, was born on November 16, 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended schools in Minneapolis, Des Moines, Kansas City and Britt.  He graduated from Britt High School, Jr. College and attended Drake University in the school of Commerce.

Monty was in the United State Marine Corp. After the service, he returned to Britt where he farmed for 46 years and also owned a golf car business for 25 years.  He had a dairy farm and served on the DHIA board.  He was also a member of the Jaycees and the Country Club board.  He studied wind generation and sustainable energy for over 20 years, culminating in the erection of three wind generators on his farm.  He spoke to many groups and on the radio and TV about the importance of sustainable energy.  His was the only farmer owned wind farm in the United States.

Monty attended the Britt Congregational U.C.C. Church.  He is remembered as a loving father and friend, very devoted to his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was always there to help when he was needed. There was never a time when he wasn't there for his family.  He also enjoyed Spirit Lake fishing and friends, and football.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; his sons, Skip Miller and his wife, Sherry and their children, Paul, Sara, Laura and Melissa; John Miller and his wife, Kim and their children, Tracy and Corey; Jim Miller and his wife, Peg and their children, Dale, Katie and Jennifer; his daughter, Sue Nelson and her husband, Danny and their children, Elisa and Dominic, all of Britt; and one brother, Larry Miller and his wife, Fran of Okoboji, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
