Mark W. Dirks

Mark W. Dirks, 66, of Belmond passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 surrounded by family at Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond. Mark William, son of William “Bill” and Bonnie (Fleener) Dirks, was born on March 23, 1955 in Belmond. He grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1973. After high school, Mark attended college in Minneapolis.

When Mark moved back to Belmond after college, he started working at Central Soya. He worked there for a while before working for the City of Belmond, later becoming the city works manager after his dad retired. Mark enjoyed his 38+ years working for the city.

Mark loved to go hunting, fishing, and racing. He enjoyed watching any kind of sport event. Family was important to him and loved spending time with his grandchildren and host family for holidays.

Mark is survived by his wife LaVonn; children Chad (Lesley) Dirks of Belmond, Tiffiny (Matt Billings) Braner of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Jared Dirks (Nicole) of Belmond; five grandchildren Ava Dirks, Brooklyn Dirks, Alice Billings, Ethan Dirks, and Emmett Billings; mother Bonnie Dirks of Belmond; sisters Merrie (Dave) Olmsted and Melanie Dirks (Lisa Mills); aunt and uncle Larry (Denise) Fleener; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Bill Dirks in 2014.
