Marlene L. Wessels, 81, of Belmond and formerly of Goodell, passed away Friday,
February 16, 2018 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Marlene Lois, daughter of Russell and Ida (Schumacher) Dorr, was born on
September 3, 1936 on a farm near Belmond. Marlene attended country school and
later attended Belmond Schools.
On October 9, 1954, Marlene was united in marriage to Donald Wessels in Mason
City. In the spring of 1961, Don and Marlene moved to their home on the farm
northwest of Goodell, where they farmed for the next 37 years. Marlene worked at
Winnebago and then Eaton. She was a fulltime mother and a partner in the farming
operation.
Marlene and Don loved to go fishing and deer hunting. Marlene enjoyed cooking
and baking and was always making meals for her family. She always had coffee and
sweets for the feed salesmen and farmers who would stop by their home.
Marlene is survived by her three children Donna (David) Basener of Meservey,
Linda (Steve) Schrage of Clarion, and John Wessels of Kanawha; ten grandchildren
Nicole Gutman, Nathan Basener, David Basener, Dolly Bailey, Brooke Duncan, Lynn
Vander Heiden, Kathlyn Long, Rachal Reinhart, Cole Wessels, and Heath Wessels;
19 great-grandchildren Gabriel, Ezekiel, Malachi, Jonathan, Stephen, Samantha,
Reuben, Georgia, Savannah, Waverly, Lane, Lily, Luke, Jack, Sara, Marie, Kyle,
Talon, and Colin; and one sister Shirley Stephenson of Marshalltown.
She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.
