Obituary


Martin H. Boomgarden, 68 of Britt slipped into God’s hands the evening of December 25, 2014.

Funeral services for Martin Boomgarden will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt.  Burial will take place at Amsterdam Cemetery in Kanawha. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Martin, the son of Nathan and Margaret (Mein) Boomgarden was born December 17, 1946, in Kanawha.  Martin grew up in the Kanawha and Britt area, attending school in Britt and Crystal Lake.  Martin worked for Myrlen Olsen while he was attending school.  He graduated from Britt High School with the class 1965.

Martin served his country by enlisting in the Army.  He served in Turkey during the Vietnam War.

Martin worked at Winnebago Industries for 31 years.  After retirement, he moved to the Prairie View Apartments.  He enjoyed getting to know people there, visiting and putting puzzles together.  Martin also enjoyed working with flowers, gardening, and was also a bee keeper.

Martin is survived by his daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Joy (Karl) DeMunda of Cedar Rapids ; grandchildren Wynter and Jaden DeMunda; sisters, Marjorie (Anthony-Merle) Meyers of Bothell, Washington, Mildred Fox of Wesley, Mary Penning of Ankeny, and Manette (Bill) Lamping of Forest City; brothers, Marvin (Beverly) Boomgarden of Britt, Menno Boomgarden of Cissna Park, Illinois, Merle (Peggy) Boomgarden of Algona, Michael (Brenda) Boomgarden of Britt, and Mark Boomgarden of Britt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Martin was preceded in death by his mother in 1957, and his father in 1978, as well as his grandparents Martin and Laura Boomgarden, Henry and Gepke Mein, two nieces, and many aunts and uncles.
