Marvin C. Smith, 87, died February 13, 2016 at his home in Rowan.
Services were held February 18, 2016 at the United Church of Rowan. Military
honors were provided by American Legion Post 159 of Rowan.
Marvin Curtis, the son of James and Amanda Andrews Smith, was born March 12,
1928 in Dows. He graduated from Rowan High School and took some agriculture
classes at community college. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served
during the Korean Conflict.
Marv married Chloe Hammond on June 20, 1952, and they made their home in the
Rowan area for many years. The couple was blessed with five children: Kerri,
Linda, Carl, Dan and Tim. When the kids graduated from high school, Marvin and
Chloe went on a late-life adventure. They moved to a ranch in the mountain
country of Wyoming. Being a cattleman and rancher was Marv's dream job. Before
returning to Rowan in 2001, they lived in Wyoming for 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sisters Alberta, Gail and Amah; brothers
Marlyn (his twin), Ed, Bruce, Don and Floyd; and nephews Dick and Don Rink.
Marvin is survived by his children Kerri Eivins, Linda (Scott) Lunning, Carl
(Sharon) Smith, Dan "Boone" Smith, and Tim (DeAnne) Smith; grandchildren Roslind
(Doug) Gustafson, Debbie Bock, Riea (Earl) Searcy, Diane (Chris) Bock, Ben
Morford and Joe Morford; and sister-in-law Lila Smith
