Obituary


Marvin E. Meyer, 88, formerly of the Corwith area, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Funeral services for Marvin Meyer will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 10:30 am at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East 3rd Street, in Kanawha with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. 

Marvin Earl Meyer was born on June 17, 1923, to Henry and Hattie (Sinning) Meyer in Tea, South Dakota. When Marvin was young, he and his family moved to Iowa and settled in the Woden area. Marvin was raised in the Woden area and eventually moved to Britt with his family.

After schooling, he began helping on the family farm, where he spoke of using horses to do farm work.

On August 29, 1946, Marvin was united in marriage to Cathern Adams. They lived in the Britt area and then moved to the Corwith area, where he farmed for around 40 years before retiring. They stayed on the family farm until moving to the Kanawha Community Home.

Marvin loved to work and was also a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.

Marvin is survived by his wife Cathern; son Randy (Carolynn) Meyer of Deer Trail, Colorado; grandchildren: Ryan Meyer of Deer Trail, Colorado, Kaitlyn Meyer of Denver, Colorado, and Jason (Regina) Meyer of Parker, Colorado; great-grandchildren Kameron and Sophia; and sister Lucille Meyer of Britt.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mildred Meyer; brother Fred Meyer; granddaughter Kira; and great-grandson Kaanan.
