Obituary

Marvin Minor, 70, of Clarion passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Memorial services for Marvin Minor will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church, 420 1st Street North West in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison officiating.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the church on Monday.

Marvin was born February 5, 1944 in Goldfield, Iowa.  Marvin and his family moved around north central Iowa as a boy before settling in Clarion.  He graduated from Clarion High School in 1962. After graduation, he worked at the fertilizer plant in Eagle Grove.

In his early 20’s he met Diane Hopkey, a roller skating waitress at the A&W in Belmond. They were married on August 6, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Belmond.  The couple moved to Muscatine, Iowa where they had three children. In 1974, they returned to Clarion where their children attended school and remained there until his death.

In 2007, Marvin was introduced to Katherine (Pogge) Olmstead by a pastor; they were married on March 15, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Clarion.  The couple made their home in Clarion and enjoyed camping and traveling together.  They recently attended the wedding of Katherine’s daughter Krista in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  Marvin enjoyed the trip very much, especially watching the whales.

Marvin was an outdoorsman and loved to target. He loved automobiles and drove his motorcycle often before his retirement from his career working for Wright County in 2007. His children remember that he loved to sing, was an excellent storyteller, and frequently told jokes; his common phrase being “I resemble that remark.”

Marvin is survived by his wife Katherine Olmstead-Minor of Clarion; two brothers Howard (Kathy) Minor of Humboldt and Gary (Michelle) Minor of Goldfield; children Annette (Robert) Ogborn of Heyworth, Illinois, Michael (Jill) Minor of Mountville, Pennsylvania, and Matthew (Christina) Minor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren Liza Landis, Sean and Ashlea Morgan, and Mallorie, Donovan, Christiana, Noah, Maxwell and Neve Minor; great-grandchildren Braxton and Braiden Landis; step-children Amy (Troy) Dannen, Bryan (Kimberly) Olmstead, and Krista (Tyler) Weydert; and step-grandchildren Elizabeth and William Dannen and Jillian, Beckham and Delaney Olmstead.

Marvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane (Hopkey) Minor in 2003; his parents Gayhard (Hans) and Marie Frances (Carlson) Minor.
