Mary E. "Betty" Boothroyd, 78, of Britt passed away Friday, January 21, 2000 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Mary the daughter of Frederick H. and Mary (McNamara) Paranto was born May 15, 1921 in Dudley, Massachusetts.  In 1942 she graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, Massachusetts. She accepted a commission as 2nd Lt. in the Air Force Corp of Nurses and was stationed in Gulfport at Gulfport Airfield, Mississippi, where she met and married Edwin L. Boothroyd.  They were married on July 21, 1944. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. Mary is survived by her husband Edwin; two sons Edwin R. and his wife, Mary Lou of Britt and James and his wife, Maria of Mason City; three grandson Todd and his wife, Kara of Clive, Tony and his wife, Mina of West Des Moines and Toby of Britt; four great-grandchildren; one sister Virginia and her husband, Edward Devlin, and one nephew and his wife all of Dudley, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and one sister and her twin brother.
