Mary Jean Hocraffer (Pick), 86, of Clarion, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Jean Hocraffer will be held at 2:00 PM on December 1, 2021 with visitation prior to services, starting at Noon at St. John's Catholic Church, 608 2nd Ave NE, Clarion, IA 50525 with Reverend Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Clarion. Mary Jean was born on July 23, 1935 to Hubert and Ola (Hiter) Pick of Clarion, IA. She attended St John's Catholic School in Clarion until the 8th grade and then Clarion High School. In 1953, Mary Jean met a young veteran and farmer named Robert (Bob) Hocraffer. Mary Jean and Bob were married November 7, 1955. Together, they farmed in Dayton and Lincoln townships before settling in Lake township in 1961, near Holmes, where they farmed and raised 3 sons: Henry, Dan, and Jim. Mary Jean was an exceptional baker and cake decorator. In her career she baked and decorated hundreds of cakes for birthdays, graduations, weddings, and other celebrations. Mary Jean was a talented musician, playing the piano, organ, and violin and sharing her love of music with her family. She also loved gardening, spending countless hours tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Mary Jean dearly loved her family and particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Jean is survived by her children Henry (Sandra) Hocraffer of Rochester, MN, Dan Hocraffer of Clarion, IA, and Jim (Brenda) Hocraffer of Lawson, MO. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Amy (Charles Franz) Hocraffer, Robert (fiancé Kalyn Gigot) Hocraffer, Lisa Hocraffer, Laura Hocraffer, Corey (Tricia) Storts, Austin (Jenna) Storts, Cade Hocraffer, and Carter Hocraffer and 3 great-grandchildren: Connor Blair-Franz, Huck Storts, and Hank Storts. Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Hocraffer, her parents, sister Margaret Louise (Pick) Mock, brother Hubert Bernard Pick, and granddaughter Christine Hocraffer.
