Maxine B. (Hansen) Weir

Maxine B. Weir, age 88, of Dows passed away Tuesday June 17, 2014 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center.

Maxine Bell, daughter of Hans and Esther (Kreitlow) Hansen was born December 2, 1925 in Dows. She grew up on the Ellsworth Ranch west of Dows. Maxine attended school in Dows and graduated from Dows High School in 1943. Maxine married Walter William “Bob” Weir on February 26, 1944 at the Methodist Parsonage in Dows. The couple first made their home on the ranch. In 1946 they moved to a farm west of Dows where they were blessed with three children Jerry , Judy and Jeanette. They moved into Dows in 1992. Walter passed away on January 24, 1993. Maxine continued living in her own home until 2012.

Maxine was a very special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed having coffee at the Crème in Dows every afternoon. Maxine loved reading newspapers. She would cut out articles and paste in scrapbooks. She has scrapbooks back to 1943. She also was an avid card player. 500 and Pepper were Maxine’s games. She loved helping people. She would often take someone that didn’t have a ride or needed a driver to doctor’s appointments or any place they needed to go. Maxine was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dows, Dows Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, Social Club and the Jolly Mother’s Club all in Dows.

Maxine is survived by her three children Jerry Weir (Judy) of Clarion, Judy Johnson of Bloomington, MN, Jeanette Wenzel (Leland) of Dows, nine grandchildren, Mike Rink (Elizabeth), Tim Weir, Tracy Weir, Deanna Terc (Richard), Jerry “Bob” Weir, Christopher Strom (Sarah), Joshua Strom (Karla), Angela Wharton (Matt) , SheRee Wharton (Luke), seventeen great-grandchildren: Brent, Travis, Eric, Tory, Troy, Mario, Allen, Dana, Phoebe, Max, Connor, Katie, Jacob, Belle, Kali, Hannah, a brother, Larry Hansen (Janet) of Dows and numerous other relative and friends.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, grandson Troy Weir and great-granddaughter, Abbie Wharton
