Maybelle (Johnson) Mariner

Maybelle (Johnson) Mariner, 96, of Britt, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills. Graveside services for Maybelle Mariner will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 5:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Pastor Willie Rosin officiating. Maybelle Johnson was born on May 25, 1920 to Joel and Christina Johnson in Kanawha, Iowa. She grew up in Kanawha and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1939. Maybelle met John (Jack) Mariner who had moved to Kanawha after he was in the service. The couple married on April 5, 1945. To this union, two children were born, Ann and Michael. She worked as a homemaker while Jack worked at Winnebago Industries, was a carpenter and farmer. Maybelle loved to cook, can goods, and sew. She also enjoyed her flowers whether it be growing them or receiving them. Maybelle is survived by three grandchildren, Tony (Monica) Smidt, Lori (Troy) Aukes, and Alanna (Travis) Randall, and 6 great-grandchildren. Maybelle is preceded in death by her husband John; children, Ann (Mariner) Smidt and Michael Mariner; her parents; her brother, Lester Johnson; and her sisters, Gladys Shipman and Doris Allos.
