Obituary


Merle Rust, 80, of Kanawha, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Merle was cremated, according to his wishes.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. 

Inurnment will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.  Military graveside services will be provided by the Kanawha American Legion.  A luncheon will follow.   

Merle was born to Raymond and Agnes Rust August 14, 1931, on the family farm, in Kanawha.

He graduated from Kanawha High School in 1948 and was in the army from 1950 thru 1952.  He served his country in Okinawa as an electrician.

Merle returned home to farm the family farm.  In 1955 he married Carla Studer.  Later he worked for Kraft Hardware and Farmers Elevator.  Merle also helped his special friend, Larry Anderson, during harvest time.

Gardening (sharing his produce with friends), hunting and fishing were the interests that brought him joy.

Merle is survived by sister-in-law, Harriet Rust of Mason City; nephew, Terry Rust of Minnesota; niece, Kathi Heady of Colorado; nephew, Jeff Rust of Colorado; and niece, Jean Wilcox of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Leonard, Richard and Jerry.
