Obituary


Michael P. Dillon, 79, of Thornton, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South, in Belmond.

Michael Patrick, son of Margaret Dillon, was born on January 23, 1944 in Belmond. He grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School.

Mike worked at Packard Electric, Kinseth Plumbing and Heating, and for the City of Belmond. Mike owned and operated a radiator shop in Belmond, an electrical service in Thornton and later a tree service in Thornton. He served on the Belmond Fire Department for 14 years.

On August 8, 2008, Mike was united in marriage to Terri at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Thornton. Mike and Terri enjoyed traveling and visiting new places and spending the winters in Gulf Shore, Alabama. One of Mike’s favorite things to do was take Terri to the Buddy Holly Winter Dance Party in Clear Lake every year.

In his younger years, Mike loved hunting and trapping. He loved fishing, especially fishing at Leech Lake in Minnesota. He enjoyed going to coffee with his buddies every morning, playing cards, and listening to his 50s and 60s vinyl records.

Mike is survived by his wife Terri; children Michele “Missy” Wright, Bobbi (Ed) Miller, and Patrick (Kendra) Dillon; step-children Jamie (Beth) Grant, Jenny (Gary) Akins, and Jerrod (Jenny) Grant; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mary (John) Lovetinsky and Ann (Kevin) Opitz; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Patrick Dillon and Daryl Dillon; and brothers-in-law Dick Logan, Tom Logan, and Larry Logan.
