Obituary


Michael P. Yeakel, 53 of Kanawha, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at his home in Kanawha. Graveside services for Michael Yeakel will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in rural Kanawha, with Pastor Mark Heath officiating. Family and friends are invited to the Kanawha Fire Station for lunch following the service at the cemetery. Michael Patrick Yeakel was born September 25, 1964 to James Oral and Patricia Ann (Campbell) Yeakel in Belmond, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in Kanawha. Following high school, Mike enlisted and served with the Army National Guard. Mike previously worked for Doug Kraft at the hardware store, for Mike Sampson doing construction, and at North Iowa Wood Products in Belmond.  He later worked as a mechanic at Yeakel Garage, at Broshar Implement and for Scott Hasty. Mike was an avid stock car fan, whether at local dirt track races or watching NASCAR on TV.  He enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles and cheered for the Bears and Cubs. Mike will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Mike is survived by his sisters, Barbara (Merlyn) Assink of Kanawha, Carol (Bill) Clausen of Bouton, and Linda (Dave) Robbins of Goodell; his nieces and nephews Matthew Assink of Kanawha, Brandon (Renee) Assink of Grimes, Angela (Ben) Koester of Cedar Rapids, Michelle (Anthony) Archer of Kokoma, Indiana, Lucas (Erin) Henning of Madison, Wisconsin, Casey Henning of Ankeny, Beth (Jimmy) Ott of Goldfield, James (Jamie) Robbins of Sheffield, Rachael (Matt) Bentley of Klemme, along with 17 great-nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a great-niece, Payton Millie Ott.
