Michael R. Abels

Michael R. Abels, 68, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Funeral services for Mike Abels will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Wright Christian Reformed Church, 1730 East 130^rd Street in rural Kanawha, with Pastor Jason Semans officiating.   

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2^nd Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Michael Ralph, son of Earnest and Doris (Daggett) Abels, was born on February 6, 1951 in Belmond. Mike graduated from Corwith Wesley High School in 1969. After high school, Mike served in the National Guard for six years.

On March 24, 1972, Mike was united in marriage to Donna Allen at the Wright Christian Reformed Church. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Stacey and Angela.

Mike farmed in the Kanawha area for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading cowboy books. He loved watching his grandchildren’s activities, especially teaching and watching them fish and hunt. Spending time with family was important to him. Mike was a member of Wright Christian Reformed Church.

Mike is survived by his wife Donna; two daughters Stacey (Dave) Meeuwsen and Angela (Dwayne) Capper; eight grandchildren Elizabeth, Samantha, and Noah Meeuwsen and Emily, Erin, Allison, Zach, and Conner Capper; two brothers Bill (Tina) Abels and Dan (Rene) Abels; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Paul Jenn.
